This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of safely and effectively adjusting the gullet size of your saddle, providing the knowledge and confidence you need to enhance your riding setup. From securing the saddle on a stable surface to conducting a final check before your ride, each step is designed to help you maintain the integrity of your equipment while ensuring the best possible fit for your horse.
Prepare the Saddle: Ensure the saddle is on a secure surface with easy access to the underside where the gullet is located.
- Locate and Undo Screws: Find the screws located on the underside of the saddle at the front area. Use an appropriate screwdriver to carefully undo these screws. There are typically two screws.
- Peel Back the Panels: Once the screws are removed, gently peel back the panels of the saddle. This will expose a velcro flap underneath.
- Open the Velcro Flap: Undo the velcro flap carefully to fully expose the gullet plate underneath.
- Access the Gullet Plate: With the velcro flap open, you will see the gullet plate. It's held in place by two screws, one at each end of the gullet plate.
- Remove the Gullet Plate: Use the appropriate screwdriver to carefully undo these screws. Once the screws are removed, you can gently pop out the gullet plate from its housing.
- Replace with Desired Size: Take your desired gullet size and carefully place it into the gullet housing, ensuring it fits snugly and securely.
- Secure the Gullet Plate: Align the new gullet plate properly and insert the screws back into their respective holes. Tighten them securely but avoid over-tightening.
- Close Velcro Flap and Panels: Once the gullet plate is securely in place, close the velcro flap over it. Then, carefully fold the saddle panels back into their original position.
- Secure Screws at Front Area: Align the panels properly and insert the screws back into their holes at the front area of the saddle. Tighten them securely.
- Final Check: Double-check all screws to ensure they are tightened properly and securely.
- Test the Saddle: Before riding, ensure the saddle feels secure and comfortable with the new gullet size installed.
